Schubert/Liszt Serenade - two editions in one

$24.00

Liszt’s transcription of Schubert’s iconic Serenade, an Urtext edition bound together with an enhanced edited edition that provides added phrasing and pedal marks mostly from Schubert’s original. This work was inspired by a suggestion by Dr. Brian Ciach that I bring out a scholarly version of this piece in view of all the errors and poorly executed scores I found in other versions of this piece that I consulted.

There is much supplementary contained in this volume such as my own translation of the poem, written by Ludwig Rellstab, with copious notes on the poem itself and its translation. There are performance notes for the music as well. Also, an essay is presented discussing the life and times of early 19th century Germany as a backdrop for the poem. Finally, there are the usual engraving comments included with the Urtext edition.

Thus, my goal to produce the most accurate and best executed edition of this work available I believe has been achieved.
